What is Pollen Publishing?
Pollen Publishing is a home for practical tools that help small brands grow with clarity and confidence. Pollen is founded by two creative professionals with 30 years of combined experience across PR, brand partnerships, creative direction and content production.
We’re launching our PR offering first - starting with The PR Guidebook, a practical DIY toolkit created for founders, side-hustlers, and small business owners looking to build visibility on their own terms. For those who’d like more personalised support, we also offer one-off, light-touch consulting packages - designed to help you move forward strategically, without the cost or commitment of engaging an agency. We believe no one knows your brand better than you do. Our role is simply to equip you with the tools, guidance and confidence to get your story heard - a helping hand to set you on the path to success.
Pollen will soon expand into other creative disciplines - from brand partnerships to visual storytelling and content production - through future guidebooks, templates, and consulting offers.
Everything we do is designed to help small brands punch above their weight - with practical, affordable tools, creative clarity, and a little help from those who’ve done it before.
Why ‘Pollen’?
We chose the name Pollen because it represents the way ideas, stories, and creativity spread - organically, powerfully, and with lasting impact. Just like pollen helps things grow, we exist to help small brands grow - with the right tools, at the right time, in the right way. And like the little bee, we see our role as simply helping that process along - part of the ecosystem, not above it.
Pollen is barely there, but transformative. It travels far, takes root where it lands, and makes things bloom. That’s how we think about PR and brand building too - not as shouting louder, but as planting the right seeds and nurturing real connection.
Because we know firsthand that founders and small business owners wear many hats, we’ve created Pollen as an empowering space to access the kind of support you actually need - without the jargon or gatekeeping.

Note: While public relations (PR) can be valuable across both B2B and B2C industries, this guide is primarily designed for consumer-facing (B2C) brands - where media coverage, brand storytelling, and social proof are often central to growth. If you’re a B2B brand, many of the principles still apply - particularly when it comes to thought leadership, founder profiling, or trade/industry media. Though some examples (like product launches or seasonal story angles) will be more directly relevant to B2C.

Do you provide a media list or journalist contacts?
No - and that’s intentional. We believe in building trust the right way. The PR Guidebook is about empowering you to forge your own media relationships, tailored to your brand, your story, and your goals.
We focus on equipping you with the tools to identify the right media outlets, angles and contacts for your business, with the strategies to approach them confidently and professionally.
Not every media outlet is the right fit for every story. Often, you only get one shot to make an impression. That’s why, rather than handing you a generic list, we show you how to think like a publicist - so you can pitch the right story, to the right person, at the right time.
The guidebook includes practical tips for identifying your ideal media targets, determining your ideal and realistic placement, and sourcing publicly available contact details in a professional, respectful way.
What if I already have PR help - can I still use the guidebook?
Yes! Many small businesses use this guide alongside their marketing or comms support. It’s also a great resource to train junior team members or align everyone on your media approach.
Can I gift the guidebook or recommend it to a friend?

Do you offer refunds?

How do the consulting packages differ from the guidebook?
While the guidebook is designed to offer universal tools and insights, our consulting packages offer one-on-one support, tailored to your brand, your goals, and where you’re at in your journey. Rather than committing to a campaign or retainer, these light-touch packages are designed to help you with just the parts you need it.
You might want help crafting your messaging from scratch. Or maybe you’ve just hit a roadblock in your media outreach and want assistance identifying fresh angles and opportunities. Can the guidebook be used outside of Australia?
Yes - the core frameworks and strategies are designed to be universally applicable. While The PR Guidebook is written from an Australian perspective (including some references to local media titles), the core principles of storytelling, brand messaging, and pitching strategy are relevant to most markets.
If you’re based in the US, UK, NZ, Canada, or elsewhere, you should still find the guidebook offers valuable insights you can begin applying right away - from identifying media angles to refining your pitch and building journalist relationships.
That said, some elements (like the included media examples) are specific to Australia. If you're using the guide internationally, you’ll need to adapt these sections to suit your region.
Will you be offering consulting to brands outside Australia?
At this stage, our consulting packages are only available to brands seeking support with their presence in the Australian market.
While the core principles of PR are often universal, one-on-one consulting requires a deeper understanding of your specific media landscape in order to shape the most relevant strategy and offer truly tailored advice. As such, we’re currently focused on supporting Australian-based businesses.
That said, if you’re based overseas, The PR Guidebook is still a great place to start. It’s packed with foundational tools, frameworks, and strategies that can be adapted to most markets.
